Scott and Dylan’s New York Garden Coop Chicken Coop with External Nesting Boxes

Garden Coop in New York built with plans

Scott and his eight-year-old son, Dylan, sent us a note and pictures of The Garden Coop walk-in chicken coop they built together at their home in New York state. The red henhouse with trim and the outboard nesting boxes are great additions!

First, I would like to say that I looked at every coop plan available and found that this would be the best fit for our accommodations. Excited to begin our quest to raise our own chickens, I downloaded The Garden Coop chicken coop plans and immediately bought the materials. My 8-year-old son and I tackled this project together. The plans were easy to follow and also allowed for minor modifications without impacting the overall design intent. Dylan and I completed this coop in a weekend and a day from framing to paint!

To create more floor space in the henhouse, we built exterior nesting boxes and put the ramp on the side instead of up through the floor. And we added a sliding door operated from outside the coop for the henhouse ramp opening. There is an interior roost and a large door within the pen for easy cleaning of the coop. We will continue to enjoy this perfect coop and our new hens. Thank you!
